1:12 AM Miguel Rodriguez – While Patrolling Balboa Peninsula Community, I, Security Officer Miguel Rodriguez, was flagged down by a resident and spectators who advised myself that a driver had driven his vehicle onto the jetty at a high rate of speed. Upon approaching the scene, I observed the spectators who reported the incident in proximity of the vehicle, which was stuck in the rocks and sand on the jetty barrier and the driver in the driver’s seat. I made contact with the driver to ensure he was responsive and stable, to which he was. I observed a open container of alcohol in his
passenger seat and noted his speech was slurred and indirect.
Acting on the possibility the male individual was intoxicated, I ensured that he did not have the keys to his vehicle so that he could not further operate the vehicle or endanger himself. I contacted Newport PD and fully
advised them of the situation, and they arrived shortly after and took handle. No damage to resident or public property was noted. Male was observed in custody of Newport Beach PD, who contacted a tow truck to remove the vehicle from park property. No further issues to report.
