CFBPP Board Member Changes

"Serving as a catalyst and resource for philanthropy seeking to improve the lives of people in the greater Balboa Peninsula Point area now and for future generations.”

Denise Macias has decided to rotate off of the board of directors of the CFBPP in order to pursue other charitable interests. As a member of the board of directors of the CFBPP, Denise provided valuable input about the concerns and desires of people who live on the Balboa Peninsula Point. The members of the board send their sincere thanks to Denise for five years of service on the board. The board also wishes Denise success and happiness in her continuing efforts to help others.

Tara Shapiro and Brigid O’Connor Join Board of Directors

A twenty-five-year resident, Tara Shapiro and her husband Mike moved to Peninsula Point in 1999 and quickly embraced our coastal neighborhood. Having had a successful career in the fashion industry, Tara decided to pursue CA real estate in 2012– having previously worked in the field in Chicago. With a love of people, architecture, and our community, Tara focuses on the waterfront neighborhoods of Newport Beach. She and her husband owned HOM Sotheby’s, establishing 11 offices in Orange County and the Desert communities before selling to Pacific Sotheby’s in 2018. In 2022 Tara and Mike introduced EQTY Forbes Global Properties to the same trade areas as the exclusive representative of the Forbes luxury brand.

When not working Tara loves Pilates, fashion, crossword puzzles, and long walks – both with and without Jack Russells – Harry and David. Having previously served as VP of the BPPA, Tara is excited for the opportunity to now work with the Community Foundation.

Brigid O’Connor came to the Balboa Peninsula Point in 2012 with husband Kevin Vollmer and daughter Maeve, who spent many summers as a Junior Lifeguard and now spends her summers working at Marina Park as a beach camp counselor.

Brigid earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. She worked in law, finance and healthcare as a marketing and communications executive and most recently worked as a consultant to corporations in the same industries.

You can find Brigid walking fast or biking on the boardwalk, cycling madly at Grit up on 17th or just sitting perfectly still at the sand’s edge watching the waves. Kevin and Brigid also enjoy the mountains at their home in Vail, Colorado. Maeve will attend the University of San Diego this Fall.
